Amidst the vibrant celebration of Mardi Gras, the bustling streets of New Orleans enveloped me, surrounded by playful costumes and joyful crowds.
But here’s something important I wondered about: Is the post office open on Mardi Gras Day?
While everyone was having a great time, I needed to know if I could go to the post office to send a package or if I had to wait.
Today, I’ll share whether the post office is open on this special day of fun.
Will The Post Office Be Open On Mardi Gras?
Yes, post offices all over the country remain open on Mardi Gras to ensure customers have access to their mail and other services.
They will be open according to their normal hours of operation, which are at 8:30 am and close at 4:30 pm.
If you need to visit the post office on Mardi Gras, you should plan to arrive early in the morning to ensure that you have enough time to get your mail.

However, you must note that while the post office will be open on Mardi Gras, some post office branches may have reduced hours or operate on a limited schedule.
Others may close for part of the day for local celebrations and parades, such as the Midtown Post Office will suspend its operations this year.
Therefore, customers should check with their local post office or USPS website to determine if their branch will be open and what services are available.
Does Louisiana’s Mail Service Operate On Mardi Gras?
Yes, Louisiana’s mail service operates normally on Mardi Gras.
The United States Postal Service continues to provide mail services to the state’s citizens on the day of the holiday, such as delivering Priority Mail Express, Priority Mail, and Amazon packages.
While many postal offices may close for the day, the USPS will still provide delivery services, ensuring that packages and letters make it to their destination.
However, due to a parade scheduled for the 25th to the 28th of February, mail collection in the French Quarter and Central Business districts will be suspended this year.
So, delivery times may be slightly delayed due to the festivities, but mail service is still provided overall.

USPS still delivers mail on holidays, although there may be delays due to the holiday schedule.
Delivery on holidays is typically limited to Priority Mail Express items and any other mail scheduled for delivery on the holiday itself.
Thus, it will not be considered a regular mail delivery if it is expected to arrive on holiday.
And with that in mind, customers should plan and send the package a few days in advance to ensure it arrives on time.
They should also use the tracking option to keep the package’s progress up-to-date. But is mail delivered on St. Patrick’s Day?
Does The USPS Pay Double Time On Holidays?
Unfortunately, the United States Postal Service does not offer double holiday pay.
Postal workers are paid the same rate for working on holidays as for any other day of the week.

This holiday premium is paid at the regular rate of pay but is a payment made in addition to the regular pay rate.
Do USPS Employees Are Required To Work On Holidays?
Yes, postal workers such as mail carriers and other USPS employees responsible for sorting and delivering mail are required to work on holidays.
These employees are typically required to work on major holidays such as Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year’s Day, and Independence Day.
In addition, many USPS employees are expected to work on smaller holidays such as Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Presidents’ Day, Memorial Day, and Labor Day.
Nevertheless, they are typically compensated for their efforts. This usually includes additional pay and other benefits such as extra vacation time or other incentives.
On what specific holiday does the post office not deliver?

They may offer limited delivery service on other holidays depending on the area.
How long must you work for the post office before retiring?
Generally, post office employees must work for at least 20 years before they are eligible for retirement.
While the post office may be open or not on Mardi Gras day, there are still plenty of other ways to stay connected with loved ones.
Additionally, with the help of technology, it’s easy to send postcards, care packages, and other gifts even while the post office is closed.
So even if the post office is closed on Mardi Gras, that doesn’t mean you can’t still find ways to spread the Mardi Gras cheer.
