What Is The Trick to Making Good Gravy?
- Eliminate Excess Fat: Remove your turkey’s pan of excess fats post-roasting. Keep three tablespoons for flavor; discard the rest to avoid a greasy texture.
- Try to Deglaze the Roasting Pan: Elevate the flavor by deglazing the pan. Place it on medium-high heat, add ¼ cup water and the reserved fat . Stir diligently to release those golden brown bits that infuse your gravy with richness.
- To Strain or Not: It’s your call whether to strain the liquid and fat from the pan. Straining yields a smoother texture, but some savor the rustic charm of brown bits.
- Heat the Liquid Mix: In a 3-quart saucepan, heat 3 cups of pan juice and the fat mix over medium heat. Bring it to a full boil; the liquid must be hot before thickening.
- The Thickening Process: Combine ½ cup cold water and ½ cup flour in a container with a snug-fitting lid. Shake vigorously to prevent lumps.
- Use a Whisk: Pour the flour mixture into the hot liquid while whisking continuously. This prevents lumps and ensures even blending.
- Strain if Lumpy: If lumps persist, strain the gravy to remove them, then boil for 1-2 minutes to fully cook the flour. Your result? Delicious, lump-free gravy.

Turkey gravy starts with the tasty juices that come from roasting a turkey. Some people also add turkey giblets to make it richer and meatier.

How Long Does Gravy Last After Thanksgiving?
After Thanksgiving, knowing how long your leftover gravy stays good is crucial. If you keep it in the fridge, eating for about three to four days is safe.
But if you want it to last longer, put it in the freezer, which can stay good for about four to six months.
